NotebookLM March 2026: Video, Slides, and EPUB Mastery

The era of spending days turning a single lecture resource into slides, editing it into a video, and visualizing it as an infographic is coming to an end. NotebookLM's March update allows all of this to be done in just a few minutes. Let's look at how this tool has transformed for educators and researchers.

Table of Contents

  1. Cinematic Video Overviews: Learning Like a Movie
  2. Choose from 10 Infographic Styles
  3. Slide Revisions + PPTX Export
  4. EPUB Support and Saved Conversation History
  5. Practical Applications in Educational Settings

Cinematic Video Overviews: Learning Like a Movie

Upload your material and AI creates a polished video.

The highlight of NotebookLM's March update is undoubtedly the Cinematic Video Overview. This isn't just simple slide transition animation. The Gemini 3 model makes hundreds of structural and aesthetic decisions to automatically generate videos that explain topics with documentary-style narration.

Standard Video Overviews are available on all plans, while the new Cinematic Video Overview is available on the Ultra plan. These can be immediately used as class introduction videos, concept explanation clips, or research presentation materials.

Where Is It Most Useful?

  • Introductory class videos that explain complex scientific concepts to students intuitively
  • Converting the core content of research papers into 3-minute summary videos
  • Quickly transforming company reports into executive briefing video summaries

Choose from 10 Infographic Styles

Now it's "make it this style" instead of "figure it out yourself."

NotebookLM previously generated infographics automatically, but the style was chosen arbitrarily by the AI. The March update lets users directly choose from 10 styles.

Slide Revisions + PPTX Export

AI-generated slides can now be directly edited.

Previously, NotebookLM's slide feature was "generate once and done." The March update allows you to request revisions for individual slides. You can give specific instructions like "Slide 3 is too long — condense it to 3 key points." Revised slides are quickly regenerated as a new deck in the Studio panel.

Additionally, completed slides can now be exported as PPTX files. A natural division of labor forms: NotebookLM handles content structure, while complex layout editing is done in PowerPoint.

"NotebookLM builds the skeleton, and I add the flesh — that's true collaboration with AI."

EPUB Support and Saved Conversation History

Digital books can now be uploaded to NotebookLM.

Starting in March, EPUB files can be uploaded as sources. You can use e-books as research materials, or upload thick textbooks to quickly find specific content. Supporting EPUB, the standard open-source e-book format, also greatly improves compatibility with academic library resources.

A conversation auto-save feature has also been added. Even after closing and reopening a session, your previous questions and answers remain intact. In shared notebooks, each person's conversation is visible only to them, ensuring privacy in team projects.

Practical Applications in Educational Settings

As an EdTech CEO and educator, the features I found most noteworthy in this update are the improved flashcards and artifact creation.

  • Flashcard progress saving: When students mark "Got it" or "Missed it," they can continue reviewing in the next session — missed cards collected for repeated practice
  • Create videos and slides directly from chat: While analyzing material, just type "turn this into slides" in the chat window and it's generated instantly
  • EPUB textbook analysis: Upload thick textbooks and ask "create a quiz from the key concepts in Chapter 5" for chapter-by-chapter deep learning

The redesigned three-panel interface (Sources · Chat · Studio) makes the flow of upload → analysis → output generation intuitive.

Closing

NotebookLM is no longer just an "AI note helper." It has evolved into a complete learning content production studio that automatically generates videos, slides, infographics, and flashcards from uploaded sources. If you're a teacher or researcher and haven't started using this tool yet — now is the time.
