The era of building and deploying your own AI agents came faster than most expected.

When Notion opened Custom Agents beta in February 2026, many people wondered if anyone would actually use them. On May 5, 2026, Notion officially launched the feature to general availability.

What Are Notion Custom Agents?

Custom Agents are AI agents that automate repetitive tasks inside your Notion workspace β€” no code required.

  • Every Monday morning, automatically summarize project statuses and post them to Slack
  • When a new support request lands in a database, automatically notify the assigned team member
  • When a meeting notes page is created, extract action items and turn them into tasks

Admin Controls: Who, How Much, and Where

1. Creation Permission Control

Under Settings β†’ Notion AI β†’ Agents, admins can define exactly who is allowed to create agents.

2. Per-Agent Credit Limits

Admins can set a per-agent credit ceiling. Enterprise plans offer a single workspace-level credit limit that applies to all agents.

3. Multi-Workspace Visibility

The admin console now shows a unified credits dashboard across all workspaces.

Automatic Safeguards

β‘  Limit Approach Alerts: Email and in-app notifications fire when usage approaches the credit limit. β‘‘ Auto-Pause on Depletion: When credits run out, all agents pause immediately. β‘’ Anomaly Detection Auto-Pause: Fast-burning agents are automatically paused. β‘£ Approval-Gated Limit Increases: Nothing goes through without admin approval.

Private Slack Channel Access

Custom Agents can now read and reply in private Slack channels. Enable at Settings β†’ Notion AI β†’ AI connectors β†’ Enable access to private content.
